Police raid bookstall in Deccan, seize pirated books worth Rs 23 L

Officials of the Deccan Gymkhana police station raided a bookstall in Deccan on Monday afternoon and seized pirated books worth Rs 23 lakh, and arrested seven persons for selling pirated books of various renowned publications.

The arrested persons were identified as Lala Gajdhar Pal (26), Brajesh Kumar Gupta (19), Rajendra Vishwakarma (25), Mulchand Gupta (45), Nagesh Sen (23), Gulabchand Gupta (32) and Ajay Dhumal (23), all residents of Kothrud.u00a0

The action was taken after Bhagwan Pokharkar, an official of the Sen Oberoi and Intellectual Property Corporation, lodged a complaint against the accused under Section 420 (cheating) of IPC and Sections 63 and 64 of the Copyright Act.


Police Inspector Manohar Joshi of the Deccan Gymkhana police station, said, “The company has received rights to conduct raids, along with local police, from various renowned publications.

They approached us on Monday and lodged an official complaint, following which the raid was conducted on the stall where pirated books were sold. We seized over 7,000 pirated books worth Rs 23 lakh.”u00a0
