Police said the accused wife and her boyfriend planned the murder for four months.
The incident occurred on January 25 when the lifeless body of an unidentified person was discovered in a well in Adivili village, Kalyan rural area, around 10 am. Soon after the incident was brought to their notice, Manpada police reached the spot. The police observed that the victim had been thrown into the well with a stone tied to him, indicating a clear case of murder. A case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
“To identify the deceased person, the police began investigating missing person complaints. A missing complaint filed by Rita (30), the wife of the victim, Chandraprakash Lowanshi, revealed that they had been married for 11 years and resided in the Davdi area," a police official from the Manpada police station said.
Facing minimal leads, dedicated teams were formed to crack the Dombivi murder case. “Suspicion arose during the interrogation of the victim's wife, leading to her confession. She implicated her boyfriend, Sumit Vishwakarma, who, upon further questioning, divulged crucial details,” the officer said.
“We detained Sumit and on further interrogation he revealed the facts. He along with two minors took the victim for a party. Later two of them held his hand and one of them slit his throat. They tied him with a rope and stone and threw him in a well so that he couldn't come up,” the police officer said.
Further investigation revealed that Chandraprakash had become a hindrance in the love relationship between the wife and her boyfriend. “They had a childhood affair and met again two years ago. However, to settle together they decided to kill Chandraprakash and plan a conspiracy accordingly,” another police officer said.
Sunil Kurade, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dombivli Division, confirmed the arrest of two persons and the detention of two minors. “To dispel any suspicion, the wife even filed a missing complaint. However, we apprehended them, and they confessed to the crime,” Kurade said.
