Husband tells mid-day he has seen killer in the building and the man even pretended to search for the victim and was, chillingly, standing right there with them when the family discovered her body

Two days after the discovery of a woman’s body in a sofa-cum-bed in her own home in Dombivli, her husband was left stunned on Thursday when the police showed him the photo of the arrested suspect. The husband said the man had accompanied him to the police station to file a missing complaint. “I had no idea he knew my wife. He lives a few blocks away,” he told mid-day. The woman, Supriya Shinde, 33, was found strangled.

The Manpada police had filed a murder case after the body of victim Supriya Shinde, 33, was found in a sofa-cum-bed in her house at Om Residency, Shiv Shakti Nagar in Dawdi village, on Tuesday night. She appeared to have been strangled with a tie and there was blood on the backside of her head. There were no signs of struggle in his house, suggesting that the killer had entered the place with Supriya’s consent.

“I would see him [the suspect] every other day. I know he lives a couple of buildings away and used to come home once in a blue moon. In fact, when my wife went missing he came with me to the police station to register a complaint,” said her husband Kishor Shinde. The husband said he had never imagined in his dream that his wife’s acquaintance would turn out to be the suspect. “I am still shocked and puzzled. I don't know what led to the murder of my wife,” said Kirshor, 37.
The discovery
Kishor said, “It was like a regular day for me. I left for work at 9.30 am. That time Supriya said she wasn’t feeling well. I asked her to take rest, and left home.” The couple were married for 12 years and have a 10-year-old, son Shlok.
Kishor said a neighbour, Swati Jadhav, called him at 5.30 pm to inform him that Supriya didn’t go to the school to pick up Shlok. Kishor repeatedly called Supriya, but there was no answer. He asked his friend to check the home, but was informed that the door shut. After work, Kishor reached home at 8.30 pm. His neighbour, who had a spare key, opened the door to find no one inside. After searching Supriya for some time, he filed a missing person complaint at Manpada police station.
“Within an hour after the family left, they called us saying they had found Supriya’s body inside the sofa-cum-bed,” said an officer from Manpada police station. Based on CCTV footage and technical analysis, they nabbed a suspect on Thursday. “I brought the body to our hometown in Satara for the funeral. I was told that the cops have detained one person and shared his picture. He used to linger around our building, but I never had an idea that he was known to my wife,” said Kishor, “I was told by Supriya’s friend that the suspect is a friend of my wife and they had reconnected a year ago.”
Kishor is aghast at the way the suspect played with his emotions. “It was he who suggested we go to the police station. He should be hanged for taking away my son’s mother from him.” DCP Sachin Gunjal said, “We have cracked the case and nabbed one person, we can share details tomorrow.”
