The accused has been identified as Vinod Trivedi, who was a close friend of Sadhna and resided in a flat opposite patpedhi office.
During the investigation, it was found out that Trivedi, a tuition teacher, used to spend hours in patpedhi office with Sadhna when she used to be alone and also used to steal money from her drawer.
According to police, Trivedi suspected that Sadhna was aware that he was stealing money from her and he thought that she would report him to police.
“He brought a hammer and severely injured the woman by hitting her on the head several times,” said an officer from Palghar police station.
During investigation, we scanned the CCTV footage which made it clear that no outsider was involved in the murder. So, we cross-questioned all those whose statements were recorded earlier, including Trivedi.
“While questioning Trivedi for the second time, his statement was different and later, he confessed to the crime,” said senior inspector Dashrath Patil.
Trivedi was booked and arrested. He was produced before the court and remanded to police custody, the inspector added.
