A 20-year-old female passenger on board Pushpak Express was allegedly raped by eight robbers, who barged into the train at Igatpuri railway station on Friday. Four people have been arrested by the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP), and search is on for the others.
According to railway police officials, the incident occurred on Friday between 8 and 9 pm. The accused boarded the sleeper bogie D-2 of the express. “They started beating up people inside the bogie, and snatched phones and cash from passengers. They then spotted a 20-year-old woman and raped her in front of her husband. When he tried to fight them, he was beaten up, and threatened with a knife,” said an officer from the Kalyan GRP. When the train approached Kasara station, the accused tried to jump off. Alert passengers immediately called out for help. The officers and staff of GRP Mumbai responded and apprehended one accused from the platform itself.
