The officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized sub-standard and expired products worth more than Rs 3 crore from the premises of a company in Navi Mumbai area of Maharashtra, an official said on Monday, reported the PTI.


According to the PTI, the FDA team inspected the company's premises in the Turbhe area on November 9 and found several irregularities and violations of the FDA regulations in the operations and compliance, joint commissioner of FDA (Food), Konkan Division SS Deshmukh said.


The FDA officials collected samples of the food products and seized stock worth more than Rs 3 crore, he said, adding that action will be taken against the company for violations.


Meanwhile, in an another incident, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Mumbai in a raid conducted on November 6 seized and subsequently destroyed contaminated milk stock on-site in Vile Parle East.

The raid was led by Assistant Commissioner (Food) Dr Sachin Jadhao and Joint Commissioner (Food) Adhav, targeted a vendor identified as Saidulu Mallesh Gatti Gorla, located at Shambhaji Nagar, near the National Highway, Vile Parle East.

Two samples of food products were obtained by the FDA team, primarily tempered pasteurized and homogenized toned milk amounting to 97 liters, valued at Rs. 5,238, and 10 liters of an another product, valuing Rs. 560.

The total cost of the seized stock was Rs. 5,798.

The FDA Mumbai discovered evidence of tampering with the milk packets, prompting the immediate seizure and subsequent destruction of the contaminated stock on-site.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Vile Parle Police Station, in conjunction with the raid carried out in coordination with the Vile Parle East Police Station.

In September, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials of Konkan region cracked down on manufacturers of dairy products in Thane city and seized substandard food items worth more than Rs 4 lakh.

FDA officials raided dairies in the city and found two establishments manufacturing substandard products and seized them, he said. These facilities were found to be violating the FDA regulations of healthy and hygienic manufacturing premises, he said.
