Four killed after milk tanker hits tempo and plunges into river in Thane

Four persons were killed after a tanker transporting milk hit a tempo and plunged into a river at Malshej ghat in Maharashtras Thane district the police said on Saturday reported the PTIThe accident occurred near Borande village on the KalyanNagar road in Thane district around 2 pm on Friday an official saidThe milk tanker and the tempo laden with vegetables were proceeding towards Kalyan from Alephata inspector Dinkar Chakor of Tokawadi police station in Murbad saidThe tanker hit the tempo and fell into a river he saidA couple travelling in the tanker its driver and the driver of the tempo were killed in the accident while the couples fouryearold son survived the official said as per the PTIThe victims Akshay Dighe 30 his wife Tejas 26 and tanker driver Dattatraya Waman 42 were killed on the spot and tempo driver Shakeel Sheikh 29 died soon after he said the news agency reportedThe police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act against the deceased tanker driver the official saidSix including two infants killed in accident in AkolaMeanwhile in an another incident six persons including two infants were reportedly killed and three seriously injured in a collision between two cars in Maharashtras Akola district on Friday the police said reported the PTIAccording to the PTI the victims also include relatives of Member of Legislative Council MLC Kiran Sarnaik who represents the Amravati Teacher constituency the officials saidThe accident took place on a flyover on the AkolaWashim highway near Patur Ghat in the afternoon an official said as per the PTIRaghuveer Sarnaik 28 who was the MLCs nephew his sister and three of their relatives were going towards Akola in an SUV while four persons were travelling in another car in the opposite direction when the accident took place the official said the news agency reported on FridayOf the five relatives of the MLC three were killed and two injured an official saidThe accident also claimed the lives of three occupants of the other car and left one injured the official saidA 9monthold child identified as Asmira Ajinkya Amle and a oneyearold baby were among those killed the official saidThe three injured persons have been admitted to the Government Medical College in Akola while the bodies of the deceased have been sent to Akol Rural Hospital for autopsy he added as per the PTIwith PTI inputs
