Cops say they have asked the institute management time and again to install CCTV cameras on the premises, but these counsels have been disregarded. Apart from laptops and mobile phones, purses, bags, wallets, documents and other educational materials have also been pilfered.

Police said more than 10,000 students are enrolled with the premier institute and they pay hefty fees. But in return, the institute is not doing much to ensure their security.

“Students are instructed to keep phones and bags outside the classroom, while they are busy working on papers inside. Often, on stepping out they find that their phones have disappeared from the bags,” u00a0said inspector (crime) SB Navale.

When contacted, the security in-charge of the campus Col Tandale said that looking at the immensity of the grounds, it is difficult to install cameras everywhere.

“The students are allowed to keep their phones and laptops with them in switched-off mode and they are not instructed to keep them outside the classrooms,” he countered.
