In a bid to control crowding and street crimes, the Mumbai Police took action against 440 people in a special drive on Monday. The cops acted against 59 beggars, 198 people for smoking cigarettes in public places and 102 people under the NDPS Act.
According to the police, some people gather at public places without any reason, and several incidents of street crime, including eve-teasing, come to the fore. The cops said that action had been taken against 198 people, in terms of fine, under the COPTA Act 2003. The highest number of cases of cigarette smoking in public places was reported from Zone 4, which includes areas from Kalachowki to Sion. A total of 28 similar cases were reported in Zone 5.
