As part of their continued efforts to curb the drug menace in the city, the police have decided to extern drug peddlers who have more than two cases against them. Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order), Vishwas Nangre Patil has asked all zonal DCPs to prepare data on the same and extern the peddlers.
As per official data, so far, the Mumbai Police have prepared a list of 246 drug peddlers, out of which 179 have already been externed from the city for a year. “We have started this initiative to bring down the NDPS cases in the city. We are already taking action against peddlers and those who are found consuming narcotics. This initiative will help reduce the cases further,” Patil said. Official data further reveals that the maximum number of peddlers with more than two cases against them are from the South, Central and Western regions. Central Mumbai has 70, the southern part 80 and western region 67 peddlers. Local cops have already externed most of them.
