Mumbai Crime: Boxing coach held for raping 14-year-old student

“At the club, the coach raped her and also threatened her not to talk about it or he will destroy her boxing career," said a cop

A 30-year-old boxing coach was arrested by Tilak Nagar cops on Thursday for raping his 14-year-old student at Mulund (West).

As per a complaint given by the victim’s father, he had called the coach to his home in Chembur as the girl was a bit disturbed. The coach then took her to the Athlete Club in Mulund and raped her. He also threatened her not to tell about the incident to anyone or else he will ruin her boxing career.

The 45-year-old complainant had enrolled his daughter in a boxing coaching at Mulund. On March 7 afternoon, the father called her daughter’s boxing coach Umesh Rajak, 30, to his home saying she is a bit disturbed.

“Rajak went to the complainant’s house and took his daughter on pretext of taking her out for some time. He then took the girl to Athlete Clumb in Mulund (West),”said an officer from Tilak Nagar police station.

“At the club, the coach raped her and also threatened her not to talk about it or he will destroy her boxing career,” he added.

As the girl stopped talking after the incident, the father questioned her. She narrated her ordeal and then the went to Tilak Nagar police station and filed a complaint on March 10.

“We registered a complaint under relevant sections of IPC and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. We arrested the accused from Vashi Naka,” said Sunil Kale, senior inspector, Tilak Nagar police station. The accused is currently under police custody.
