Mumbai Crime Branch arrests wanted repeat offender with 28 cases

The 52-year-old against whom 28 cases are registered, had been evading court hearings despite multiple summons. As a result, non-bailable and standing warrants were issued against him in several cases. He was traced to Vasai in Palghar district through technical surveillance and was subsequently taken into custody

Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a 52-year-old wanted accused, Shabbir Sher Ali Merchant alias Shabbir Virji alias Sunny, who has a long history of burglary, theft, cheating, and gambling cases across Maharashtra and Goa.

Merchant, against whom 28 cases are registered, had been evading court hearings despite multiple summons. As a result, non-bailable and standing warrants were issued against him in several cases. He was traced to Vasai in Palghar district through technical surveillance and was subsequently taken into custody.
