Mumbai crime: Police raid shops in Bandra mall, seize counterfeit sports shoes of international brands worth crores

Mumbai crime: Mumbai Police on Wednesday raided shops in Bandra west mall and seized counterfeit sports shoes worth crores of rupees. The sports shoes were being allegedly sold with logos and names of top international brands, the police said.


According to the police, On October 9, the Property Cell of the Mumbai Police had got information that shops in several malls of the city were allegedly selling counterfeit sports shoes of top international brands following which a team of police officials from the property cell was formed.


The team of police officials further investigated the inputs they had received and raided shops in a mall located in Bandra west.


"In the raid sports shoes and slippers of top international brands were seized  by the police. The total seizure amounts to over Rs 3.26 crore," an official said on Wednesday.

He added, raids were conducted at at least three shops and three godowns in the mall in Bandra west and many counterfeit shoes and slippers of top international sports brands were seized by the police.

A case was later registered at Khar police station in the western suburbs of the city, the police said. 

Further investigations in the matter were being done, the police said.

Meanwhile, In a similar operations in June last year, the Mumbai Police had raided multiple shops in south Mumbai and seized wrist watches worth over Rs 1 crore and nabbed five people under the copyright and trademark act. 
  
A case was registered at MRA Marg police station following the recovery of the watches, the police had said.
  
According to the police, an complaint was received regarding shopkeepers indulging in selling counterfeit watches of premium brands in the jurisdiction of MRA Marg Police station. After verifying information, a successful raid was conducted at multiple shops.

The accused were caught red handed in possession of counterfeit watches, an official had earlier said.
  
The raid was conducted by six teams of the Crime Branch Control of Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW). In the raids, a huge amount of duplicate watches of prominent brands were seized, the police had said.
