The incident came to light when the police received a tip-off that an employee with Flipkart was running a racket, wherein he was placing orders mentioning incorrect addresses, and exchanging goods from the parcel with soap and other items, before returning them to the vendors. Meanwhile, the online portal was also receiving repeated complaints from customers about finding bricks and soaps in their parcel.
Following investigations, the police arrested Wajid Shakeel Momin, and the offload team leader in Mahape. During interrogation, he confessed to exchanging electronic items from packages. Momin also revealed that two of his associates, Sanghpal More, 29, and Jayant Ugle, 27, were involved in the racket. “We suspect they must have sold some of the items in the market. Efforts are also being made to find out if there is anyone else involved in the crime,” said Suresh Mengde, DCP, Zone 1.
