The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/navi-mumbai-all" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Navi Mumbai</a> police arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a dog in a housing society.
On Friday, the accused, identified as Sanjay Kadam, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by an activist.
The Kopar Khairane police arrested Sanjay Kadam, a laborer, under section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
A police official said, "The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 28, when the accused was found sexually <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-three-men-brutally-kill-stray-dog-outside-housing-society-in-mira-road-booked-23286927" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">abusing a dog</a> on the ground floor of a housing society, and the matter was brought to the notice of an activist."
Meanwhile, in another incident in Thane, the body of a woman, aged around 25, was recovered from the base of Malang fort in Ambernath taluka of Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday.
The body with strangulation mark around the neck was found near a nullah in the bushes around 6 pm on Friday, an official of Hill Line police station said.
"Some passersby spotted the body and alerted the police. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established and she seems to be aged between 25 and 30 years," the police official said.
A case of murder was registered by the police.
"Investigation is being carried out," the police official said.
