One booked for threatening to trigger blasts at Taj and Mumbai airport: Police

An unidentified person on Monday allegedly threatened to blow up Hotel Taj and Mumbai airport claiming bombs are planted at these places, an official said, according to the PTI.


It turned out to be a hoax after police conducted a search and no suspicious object was found, the official said, reported the PTI.


The mobile number on which the message was posted in the Mumbai Traffic Police's Whatsapp helpline number has been traced to Agra, according to the official.


The police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and conducting the investigation, he said.

"Traffic Police's WhatsApp number received a message threatening to blow up Hotel Taj and the city airport with bombs planted at these places. A traffic police constable alerted the police department, following which a search was conducted, but no suspicious (object) was found," he added, as per the PTI.

Mumbai Police issues preventive orders for election results day on June 4

Mumbai Police on Monday issued preventive orders for city ahead of the vote counting for Lok Sabha elections on June 4.

The elections were held in Mumbai on May 20 and the counting of votes is scheduled to be held on June 4

The police said, "A large number of persons are likely to visit the counting centers during the process of counting on June 4."

It said, "For the purpose of preventing the obstruction, annoyance and injury or risk of obstructing, annoyance and injury to persons lawfully employed and for the purpose of preventing the disturbance of the public tranquility the preventive order was being issued." 

The preventive order issued by the Mumbai Police further said that, no person other than an official engaged in connection with the election or any public servant engaged in duty at or in the vicinity of counting centres, shall between 06.00 a.m. on June 2, 2024 till 12.00 midnight on June 5, 2024 loiter or join or form any assembly or group of persons of any public through fare, highway road, street lane, bye-lane or any other public place within a distance of 300 meter radius from any counting centers.
