Based on the FIR registered at the Marine Drive police station against former commissioner of Mumbai Police Param Bir Singh and other officers in an extortion racket, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to probe the matter. The SIT will be headed by DCP Nimit Goyal from the Local Arms department and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mujawar from Deonar division. The serving officers of Mumbai Police, who were named in the FIR, have been transferred to the Local Arms department with immediate effect on Tuesday.
The officers who have transferred include Parag Manere (DCP EOW), Akbar Pathan (DCP Detection), ACP Shashikant Shinde, ACP Sanjay Patil and police inspector Asha Korke. “They have been sent to a side branch so that the investigation against them does not get influenced,” a senior police officer told mid-day.
