Thane crime: A heavy multi-axel vehicle allegedly ran over a five-year-old girl in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district on Monday, police said, according to the PTI.

The accident occurred when the girl was crossing the Cavindra-Vanzarpatti road around 12.30 pm and was mowed down by the heavy vehicle, senior inspector Santosh Awhad said, reported the PTI.

According to the news agency, the Thane Police have detained the driver and a case under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against him, he said.

Locals gathered at the spot and shouted slogans against the police and administration, the official said, as per the PTI.

People have been demanding a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles on the route between 12 pm and 5 pm, and the issue is pending with the traffic department, he said.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a six-year-old boy lost his life after coming into contact with a live wire outside his house in Mulund area of Mumbai. The tragic episode occurred on Sunday afternoon, the officials said on Monday.

According to the local authorities, the electric wire in question belonged to the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), and the young boy accidentally made contact with it. An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered by the police and a probe has been launched in the incident, an official said on Monday.

The distressing incident unfolded in Jayshastri Nagar, Mulund Colony, on a seemingly normal Sunday afternoon. The young boy, identified as Arnav Nilesh Bhandari, was innocently playing with his pet cat inside his home. However, around 3:30 pm, his cat darted outside, and Arnav followed in pursuit.

Tragedy struck when the boy, in his hurry to catch his pet, inadvertently touched an exposed electrical wire that was hanging near a wall. The immediate consequences were harrowing. "As soon as he touched the wire, he screamed and then fell silent," described an official from the Mulund police station. Upon hearing the commotion, the boy's father and grandmother rushed outside to find the child lying on the ground.
