A 24-year-old female dentist from Maharashtra's Thane district has accused a man, whom she met on a matrimonial site, of cheating her of Rs 1.5 lakh, an official said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI.

The complainant, a resident of Mira Road, told the police that she came in contact with accused Rahul Dadich in 2023 and they began communicating, reported PTI.

Last month, Dadich allegedly took Rs 1.54 lakh from the Thane dentist on some pretext or the other but stopped communicating with her soon after, reported PTI.

Realising that she had been duped, the Thane dentist lodged a police complaint on Wednesday, said the station house officer of Nayanagar police station, adding that Dadich has been booked for cheating under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In another case, the police in Maharashtra's Thane city arrested a 24-year-old for allegedly stealing laptops worth Rs 14 lakh, which he was to deliver to godowns of a logistics company in Gujarat, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.

The police apprehended the accused, Mushrif Khan (24), during an all-out operation on Monday based on a complaint lodged by a transporter, senior inspector Nishikant Vishwakar of the Kongaon police station in Bhiwandi division said, reported PTI.

Khan was entrusted 21 laptops worth Rs 14 lakh from a logistics company's godown in Bhiwandi to be delivered to godowns in Baroda and Ahmedabad in Gujarat on May 7, he said.

A police team from Bhiwandi spotted the accused during an all-out operation, questioned him and recovered some of the stolen laptops, the official said.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against four persons in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly duping a man of Rs 6 lakh by promising his son a job with a shipping company, police said on May 11, reported PTI.

The police on May 10 registered a case under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, an official from Kalwa police station said.

The accused have been identified as Chandrashekar Chorge, Shambu Prasad Sharma, Ganesh Ravan Kadam, and Nasir Hussein Ali Hussain, he said, reported PTI.

The accused, Chorge, approached the complainant, offering to get his son a job with a shipping company, and asked him to pay Rs 6 lakh to arrange for the same through the co-accused, the official said, reported PTI.

When the complainant's son failed to get a job, he sought the money back and was given a cheque for Rs 5 lakh, which was dishonoured, he said, adding that a probe is underway.
