Two booked for forcing 11-year-old boy into bonded labour in Thane

A case has been registered against two persons for allegedly forcing an 11yearold tribal boy into bonded labour in Maharashtras Thane district the police said on Tuesday reported news agency PTIAs per the police complaint the boys father had allegedly forced him to work for a cattle farmer for Rs 2000 per month an official from Shahapur police station saidThe matter came to light on Monday when a tribal organisation campaigning against child marriage and bonded labour spotted the boy a resident of Palghar district tending to goats in a village the official said reported PTIHe said that based on a complaint the police have registered a case under section 146 unlawful compulsory labour of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Bonded Labour Abolition Act Child Labour Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act against the boys father and his employerA probe into the crime is underway and no arrests have been made so far the official added reported PTIThane MACT grants Rs 2327 lakh compensation to man injured in highway accidentIn another case the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal MACT in Maharashtras Thane district has awarded a compensation of Rs 2327 lakh to a 47yearold man severely injured in a collision on the MumbaiAhmedabad Highway in 2021 reported PTIMACT member R V Mohite directed the insurer The New India Assurance Company Limited to pay the compensation with 9 per cent annual interest at first instance with the right to recover the entire amount from the owner of a container truck involved in the accident reported PTIA copy of the order passed on November 1 was made available on TuesdayGulhasan Iqbaluddin Khan driver of a trailer filed the claim against Golden Carrying Corporation and the insurance company reported PTIThe accident occurred on the night of May 6 2021 at Manor village in Palghar district when Khan rammed his trailer into a container truck that allegedly took a turn in speed and suddenly stopped without indication reported PTIThe tribunal found that the accident had occurred due to the negligence of both drivers noting that the driver of the container truck had suddenly applied the brakes while taking a turn thus violating traffic rulesCiting the Rules of the Road Regulations 1989 the tribunal observed that the claimant failed to maintain a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front to avoid a collisionThe claimant had suffered multiple fractures with a doctor assessing his permanent partial disability at 58 per cent and occupational disability at 100 per centThe tribunal however assessed the claimants functional disability to the extent of 40 per cent only rejecting the 100 per cent occupational disability claim due to a lack of a termination letter from his employer reported PTIThe tribunal also found that the Golden Carrying Corporation had committed a breach of the insurance policy as its driver was not holding a valid and effective driving licence for a heavy transport goods vehicle on the date of the accidentWith inputs from PTI
