MiD DAY had reported her case yesterday. The Mumbai Divisional Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education verified yesterday that she had passed with 57 per cent.

However, the board has clearly stated that the blame for the mix-up rests squarely on Gala's shoulders.

But the mix-up happened because she had sat on the wrong bench that day.

Basanti Roy, secretary of the Board, said, "The board was not at fault. The girl made the mistake. On the day of the exam, another student was absent.

She mistakenly sat on that student's bench and entered that student's bar code number on her answer sheet."

As a result, Gala had to submit a written apology to the Board to get her correct marksheet.
