Say KEM doctors treating 20-yr-old

Sneha Dani's suicide has come as a shock to doctors who treated her for schizophrenia earlier this year. The doctors at KEM Hospital, where Sneha was being treated, claim that she was 'fine' when discharged from the hospital in February, but had not heard from her since. On Friday, Sneha jumped to her death from her seventh-flooru00a0 Napean Sea Road residence.u00a0u00a0

A doctor from KEM Hospital, said Sneha had responded well to the treatment in January. "Sneha wasu00a0 very cooperative once her symptoms were in check. After her treatment, her parents said they wanted to take her for a holiday. However, they never came back for a check up."u00a0

The doctor added that the family had been counselled to keep a watch on Sneha. "She was perhaps struggling academically and we advised her to go slow as youngsters get frustrated when they lag behind their peers," said the doctor. Sneha was a SYBCom student of Sydenham College.

According to the Malabar Hill police, Sneha was fed up of living and, hence, committed suicide. Sneha's parents did not wish to speak. "We don't want to say anything," said her mother. The building watchman Arun Kumar, however, said Sneha was shy. "During my 12 years of duty, I never saw her talking to anyone," he said.

What happened
On Friday, around 10 pm, the family finished dinner and were watching television when Sneha excused herself saying she would be back in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, her parents called out to her, but there was no response and her room was locked. On opening the door with a duplicate key, they found that the room was empty and the window was open, from where they saw their daughter lying on a truck below. Sneha was rushed to St Elizabeth's Hospital, where she was declared dead.
