That's the CM's reaction when asked about demands to punish officials for 26/11 lapses
Last evening, the state government finally tabled the Ram Pradhan committee's report on the lapses in the 26/11 attacks at the Assembly.
While former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh wants officials who were responsible for 26/11 lapses to be punished, CM Ashok Chavan told MiD DAY that home minister RR Patil should be the right person to comment on the demand. However, despite several attempts, Patil was not available for comment.
Yesterday, the opposition staged a walkout demanding a CBI probe into the leaking of the report.
Leader of opposition Eknath Khadse and other opposition leaders demanded a probe by a central agency or an agency outside the state, which would summon the CM, deputy CM, home minister and chief secretary before it.
Patil informed the House that a 16-member panel, including the CM and him, would study all aspects of the report including the leak.
Patil also expressed his readiness to conduct a probe, but the opposition rejected the move saying that junior police officials cannot probe the leak when the needle of suspicion is on the CM, deputy CM, home minister and the chief secretary.
The report said the then Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor should have taken command during the terror attack, but he stood outside the Trident and gave instructions. The report appreciated the efforts of DGP A N Roy and JCP (Crime) Rakesh Maria.
