MHADA vigilance officer, who gave out his mobile number to check corruption, fields 50 calls a day seeking mundane details
MHADA Chief Vigilance Officer Jawahar Singh is paying dearly for printing his mobile number in the advertisements urging citizens to report instances of fraud. Singh says he receives over 50 calls daily and all callers make general enquiries that have nothing to do with fraud.
"Till date, I haven't received a single call tipping me about a fraud or a tout. Instead, people ask me stuff like where to obtain forms, and at what price. I did receive an e-mail reporting an instance of fraud though, and I am working on it. We are doing everything to ensure transparency.u00a0 Citizens are welcome to check the software that will choose who gets the tenements through lottery," said Singh.
Nikhil Kajrolkar, a citizen, queuing at the Parel branch of the HDFC Bank said, "I had heard that agents offer forms at inflated prices, but I didn't find a single agent this time."
Another MHADA tenement applicant Vaibhav Palav (21), said an agent approached him, but he told the man he preferred to stand in the queue and get the form.
