Molestation victim says four defence men showed no mercy towards her; the police didn't register her complaint either
Twenty-six-year-old Farida (name changed) is traumatised. The lady who was molested by four men and saw her male friend beaten up at Madh on Saturday evening recalls the horror.
This is my story
My friend Sanjay and I had gone to Aksa beach at Madh on Saturday evening. Around 7.30 pm, we saw four boys roaming near the beach. They kept staring at us for a long time.

Then they came close, shouted at us, and got violent. They grabbed my friend and me and dragged us to an isolated area near some bushes.

They said they were police officers and threatened to rape me. They also thrashed my friend.

Then they started molesting me and took the Rs 2,000 my friend had on him. I pleaded with them to stop and even caught their feet, but they were ruthless.

They started hitting me too. One of the boys ran away when police arrived at the spot. They took the other three and us to the Malvani police station.

The police told us there's no use filing a case and it's best to settle the matter outside. I did not want to be in any trouble. I wanted them punished, but they were let off as they were from the army.

Had it not been for Santosh Gholap, the victims would have suffered a lot more. Gholap brought the police to the spot. He tells MiD DAY what happened that evening.

The saviour speaks
I informed the police when I saw the four boys troubling the couple. In the meanwhile, my friends called and said that the guys had taken the couple into the bushes.
When we reached the spot, the guys were hitting the boy and the girl was crying in a corner. When I questioned the police later as to why they let the boys go, they insulted me.

No complaint
No complaint was filed against the accused. Sub inspector Anand Chavan, who was on duty that night, said, "The boys were from the military and had threatened the couple. The issue was settled and no case was registered."
Said senior police inspector J Hargude, "I had no idea about the incident, as there was no complaint registered. But now we have taken the statement of the girl." But there is no complaint registered even now.
