Though we live in an urban environment, we need to stay connected with the outside world and rural areas. One way to do this is by helping those who protect our forests."
Asked whether going green is a fashionable cause today, with so many corporates jumping on the bandwagon, Kothari replied, "I think it is more timely than fashionable.
We all need to unite to protect our forests. It is not just forests, but people who live near these forests who need protection.
We have to preserve their way of life. Many of them depend on the forest for wood for cooking etc. We must try to create job possibilities, impart vocational training to these people."
Kothari also stresses that phrases like lessening one's carbon footprint get a life only when they are practised in person.
"What people can do is make small changes in their everyday life by saving power, using public transport and various other ways," concluded Kothari, who has also started a personal Wildlife Conservation Trust.
