Rakesh Maria
The joint commissioner of police (crime) tells J Dey why the chargesheet against the IM accused revolves around the Navi Mumbai incident

1. What is in the chargesheet filed against the Indian Mujahideen?
Crime Branch investigations focus on the IM's role in hacking into the WiFi systems at Navi Mumbai and Chembur. The chargesheet throws light on how the 21 accused used e-mails to challenge the authority of the state, and the theft of cars from Navi Mumbai that were used in the Gujarat blast last year.

2. Isn't the scope of investigations too narrow considering that IM members are said to have been involved in blasts across the country?
The chargesheet indicates that IM members have been actively involved in terror activities since 2005. But the same accused are also being tried in courts in New Delhi and Hyderabad. This is why we have restricted ourselves to charging them with WiFi violations.
