The Mumbai police on Monday arrested ten Shiv Sena workers, who had stormed into the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office to protest against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shahryar Khan's visit to the city.

‎The Marine Drive has registered FIR and arrested ten people in connection with the protest at BCCI office. The cops, however, refused to comment on whether they had clear inputs about the protest and lack of security at the stadium.

Shashank Manohar

According to the police, an FIR was registered after Shiv Sena supporters forcefully entered the stadium and stormed into office of BCCI President Shashank Manohar at 10.25 in the morning. They were raising slogans like, 'Pakistan Murdabad' and 'Shahryar Khan go back'.

The cops arrived at the spot when the Shiv Sena workers were leaving Wankhede stadium and arrested ten people. They are identified as Shailesh Sarvai, 45, Vijay Manjrekar, 38, Vilas Khot, 45, Ramakant Bhosle, 73, Pradeep Cheulkar, 53, Satish Khot, 32, Milind Jore, 22, Anil Vadhva, 28, Dilip Walkhede, 45 and Mahesh Gulgule, 36. They have been charged under section 141, 143, 149 of IPC, all sections for rioting.

Sources said the local cops failed to stop the protest despite having a clear idea that Sena would organise a protest. A source said, "When the Sena entered, only two cops were present. However, when the Sena left the cops had arrived at the spot. They knew about possible protest by Sena, security should have been beefed up."

Additional Commissioner of Police Pratap Digavkar said, "The investigation is on in the matter. Our priority initially was to maintain law and order situation."

The meeting between PCB chief and BCCI president has been cancelled in view of the protest at the BCCI headquarters for the proposed bilateral series.

Manohar had invited Mr. Khan for talks on the much-awaited series scheduled in December.

Khan and PCB's executive committee head Najam Sethi are in the city for the meeting after discussing the planned series with BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur earlier on the sidelines of the ICC meeting in Dubai.
