An 11-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself with a dupatta at his residence in Mahavir Nagar in Kandivli (west) on Thursday morning. Around three years ago, his father had also committed suicide in a similar manner at the same spot.

Shravan Shetty&rsquo;s elder sister found his body hanging and informed her mother and the neighbours. Shravan was studying in Std V in Pancholia school in Mahavir Nagar, while his sister is studying in Std VI in the same school.
On the day of the incident, the siblings went to attend tuition classes. Shravan&rsquo;s teacher asked him to bring History books for the class from his house instead of Mathematics. Shravan left the class but did not return for around half an hour. His teacher asked Shravan&rsquo;s elder sister to find out why he had not returned.
When his sister went home, she found Shravan hanging.
Shravan&rsquo;s father Shiva, who was suffering from depression, had also hanged himself three years ago in a similar manner, said an official from Kandivli police station.
&ldquo;On the basis of the primary report, we have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR); we did not recover any suicide note from the spot and his body has been handed over to his family members for the final rites,&rdquo; added the official.
The police said that they are yet to ascertain the reason for the boy&rsquo;s suicide.
His mother is also clueless about why he took the drastic step. She works at a beauty parlour and is the sole earning person in the family.
