In an interesting twist of fate, the crime gene, which apparently ran through the Shaikh family, was put to an end by the same police inspector.
Last week, Senior Inspector Shamsher Khan Pathan of Pydhonie arrested Mobin Asif Shaikh (19), who was involved in 12 cases of chain snatching in a period of two hours on December 19.
Mobin Shaikh, son of yesteryear criminal Asif Batla, was arrested for 12 chain snatching incidents
During interrogation, Khan realised that Mobin is the son of Asif Shaikh aka Asif Batla.
Batla was a hardcore criminal with 12 cases of extortion, murder and attempt to murder cases registered against him.
Pathan killed Batla in an encounter in June 1992 in Surti Mohalla, Nagpada.
At that time, Pathan was a sub-inspector in the Nagpada police station. However, Mobin was not yet born.

After his birth, the family told Mobin that his father died in an accident and the fact that he was a hardened criminal was hidden from him.
According to Mobin's mother, Mobin started roaming with the wrong kind of people a few days ago and began petty community thefts.
However, on December 19, he snatched several chains with his friend Shahzad in the jurisdiction of LT Marg, Pydhonie and Kalachowkie police stations.
Pathan said, "Mobin is the son of Asif Batla, whom I killed in an encounter in June 1992. I was very surprised when this fact came to light, during the interrogation."u00a0
