The incident occurred around 10.15 pm when Meet Suresh Chitroda and his girlfriend were travelling from Malad East to Dahisar. According to police sources, Chitroda, who worked in the gaming section of a mall, had left work and met his girlfriend in Kandivali East. They were heading towards Dahisar when the accident happened.
Chitroda, a resident of Kurar, Malad East, was riding his scooter (MH 47 AK 3023) at high speed. He lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the divider. As the scooter crashed, both Chitroda and his girlfriend fell near the Ovaripada Metro station on the Western Express Highway in Dahisar East.
When the girl regained her bearings, she noticed Chitroda had lost consciousness and cried out for help from passersby. Fellow motorists rushed them to Shatabdi hospital. On-duty woman police sub-inspector (WPSI) Shraddha Patil reached the hospital and was informed that Chitroda, who was critically injured, had succumbed to his injuries before admission, while the girlfriend had sustained fractures.
After recording the statement of Chitroda’s girlfriend, the police concluded that Chitroda was speeding which led to the crash. Further investigation revealed that Chitroda did not have a driving licence. “Chitroda and the girl were friends who had worked together a couple of years ago. The injured girl resides in Kandivli East. They often spent time together,” said an officer from Dahisar police station. “We have registered a case against Chitroda under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code (death due to negligence),” the officer said.
