A man who left his aunt almost penniless after stealing her money and jewellery was arrested with five of his associates yesterday.

Before leaving the house, the accused tied up 66-year-old US resident Ritu and her nephew Vicky Chandani.

However, during investigations, authorities learnt that it was Vicky who was the mastermind behind the robbery and had tried to rob his aunt twice in the past.

Vicky, a resident of Lokhandwala, used to own a garage but had sold it after suffering financial losses. Looking to make an easy buck, he targeted his aunt because she was old.

Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Satardekar, Crime Branch (Unit IX), said, "Other than Vicky we have nabbed Anand alias Bala Arjun Parab (24), Yogesh alias Yogya Baburao Waghmare (19), Navin Dighambar Podar (21), Deepak alias Depaankar Mohan Shukla (26) and Shivling alias Shiva Ashok Ghodki (24). The accused had planned to commit the same crime twice in one year."
