Airhostess feared losing her job: Cops

It was perhaps the insecurity of losing her job, especially after she failed to report for duty, that drove airhostess Anupama Acharya to commit suicide, said the cops.

According to DNA, this possibility came to the fore when the Powai police was recording the statement of Samar Yajurvedi, her boyfriend, on Wednesday.

Samar told the police that Anupama feared facing the wrath of her senior as she had missed her Mumbai-Goa flight on Tuesday.

"Samar told us that she (Anupama) was scared of giving a detailed explanation to her seniors," said deputy commissioner of police (Zone X) KMM Prasanna. "She was also worried sick that her company would inform her father and initiate an inquiry against her."

Doctors have sent her viscera for chemical analysis to ascertain whether the alcohol she consumed before committing suicide was spiked. They are also checking the body for any sign of sexual abuse.

Police Investigations have confirmed that Samar, who was trying to pacify Anupama, had taken her to a movie. Later, the two, along with a couple of friends, partied at Samar's home.

Anupama's family, who claimed her body from Rajawadi Hospital, took it to Mangalore for the last rites. Her father, who works with an insurance company, spent a fortune on her education.
