Preliminary inquiries carried out by Andheri police station reveal that Dutta hailed from Hyderabad and was employed with the airline for over a year. Since then she was living in with a staffer from a national carrier identified as Uday Dharale.

According to the police, on Saturday, Dutta returned home from work at 2.45 pm. Reportedly she found Uday drinking. And altercation took place between the two and in a fit of rage Dutta locked herself in the bedroom.

A few hours later, at around 4 pm, when Dutta did not come out from the bedroom, Uday went in to check. He panicked when she did not respond to his numerous knocks on the door and finally peeped from the balcony window only to see her hanging.

Uday broke open the door and rushed her to Holy Spirit Hospital where on duty doctor declared her dead on admission. Accordingly, the hospital informed Andheri police about the incident. Police is also verifying unconfirmed information about Uday being already married and not disclosing the same to Dutta.

Her body was sent to Cooper post-mortem centre a little before midnight. Doctors are expected to perform the autopsy on Sunday after the arrival of her relatives from Hyderabad.

Investigating officer, Woman Sub Inspector Gazbe, has registered an offence under Section 174 of CrPC. The police are tight-lipped about any suicide note left behind by the deceased and claim it is too premature to even think of arresting Uday for abetment to commit suicide.

A senior police officer from Andheri police station, said, "Investigation will be done from all possible angles before deciding on the future course of action."
