Here's one solution to the eternal problem of small change on BEST buses. Buy your ticket online even before you get on one. The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking will soon be starting a mobile ticketing service where commuters can buy bus tickets through their website.
Right now they are in the process of creating an option on the website where tickets for daily travel can be bought. "Commuters can use this facility by logging on to our website through their smartphones. This will be ready by November," said Jagdish Patil, General Manager, BEST Undertaking. Why not a mobile app then? Officials said an app has been planned in the next phase.
"Top officials and the BEST Committee, however, have questions over its overall workability. Next week, we will be making a presentation on how it will work," said a BEST official, on the condition of anonymity. Sources said at several depots, the handheld devices have been returned because either tickets do not get printed, buttons do not work or devices hang, making them redundant.
