Last night, the Navghar police arrested Avinash Gadhire, a 50-year-old government servant, on charges of drunken driving and running into several people.

Five people hit

K Jadhav, investigating officer at Navghar police station, said Gadhire was on his way to Central Business District (CBD) Belapur in a car, a Maruti 800, that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

He ran into five people who came in his way and was finally caught by the people who were on the road.

Chased down

Chintan Karia, one of the five victims, said, "I was on bike with a friend when his car hit us from behind.

Though my friend suffered injuries on his head and hands, I decided to chase him. And while following his car, I saw hit run into several people on the road."
