A day after MiD DAY reported ('No entry on service road?', Dec 8) on how the service road adjoining the Mumbai Police Gymkhana was cordoned off for public use to protect the 26/11 memorial, giving the next-door gymkhanas traffic nightmares, the Marine Drive police have removed the barricades.

Speaking to MiD DAY, Zunjarrao Gharal, SPI, Marine Drive police station, said, "My men have removed the barricades that were blocking the entry to the service road."
However, when he was asked whether the barricades were removed permanently, he maintained that, "As of now, the barricades belonging to my police station have been removed."
Meanwhile, the gymkhanas are rejoicing the recent development, as they will no longer have to worry about the ugly traffic jams they had been facing ever since the service road was cordoned off.
An official from Grant Medical Gymkhana requesting anonymity said, "We are very happy that the barricades blocking the entry to the service road have been removed. This will definitely prevent traffic jams."
Dharit Shah, hospitality in-charge of Wilson Gymkhana, said, "With the road once again open for the public, guests coming in for wedding receptions will be spared the discomfort of ugly traffic snarls."
