Rizvi College student Mukeem Khan's skull, ribs were fractured

Mukeem Khan (17), who died a violent death allegedly at the hands of his friends, was a quiet and shy boy. The decomposed body of the Std XII Rizvi College student was found on Monday night from a gutter in Kalina. His friends, Amir Shaikh (19) and Sarfaraz Shaikh (18) have been arrested.

Mukeem's family is obviously devastated, more so after it came to light that his skull and some ribs had been fractured.

'Innocent son'

But Amir's parents refuse to believe their son had anything to do with the gruesome murder. "Had my son been involved in the crime, he would not have faced Mukeem's parents or accompanied Akbar to the police station to file a missing persons complaint. He was providing all possible clues to the police about the victim's friend circle," said Amir's father Siddique.

Amir's mother Zubeda added, "The police have arrested our son in haste. They have ruined his career. He was keen to enrol for an engineering course after his HSC, but everything is over now."

Police say

The police, however, insist that Amir and Sarfarz are guilty. According to the Khar police, on February 13, the suspects called Mukeem to talk to him about sharing a leaked HSC question paper and took him to the isolated area behind the Uttar Bharatiya Technical College in Kalina. They first tried to inject air into his nerves with a syringe, which can prove fatal, but later changed their plan.

Then, around 10 am Mukeem was hit with a hammer. His body was then wrapped in a gunny bag before being thrown in the nullah behind the college.

The next day, the accused visited the spot again to confirm if the gunny bag had surfaced. And since it had, they put a stone in it to submerge it and escaped. Amir has been booked for murder, destroying evidence and conspiracy. The police are also probing a probable love angle in the case.

Autopsy findings
A panel of three forensics doctors V N Tasgaonkar, Shivaji Kachare and Pankaj Gajare conducted the autopsy on Mukeem's body and found that other than multiple skull fractures, four to six left ribs were also fractured. Contusion injury marks were visible on his neck and both the hands. This indicates that Mukeem was tortured before he was killed. The anal swab has also been preserved to rule out any sexual assault.
