CR officials plan to start interlocking of signaling system of two new lines between Kurla and Thane

Commuters on the Central line brace for delays and cancellation of trains during the last week of this month.

Both mega and line-by line blocks will be implemented in the last week of March

For, the Central Railway plans to start interlocking of signaling system of the fifth and sixth lines between Kurla and Thane.

These lines have been completed recently, but their signaling work is still pending.

The reason

Railway authorities have decided to implement mega block for five days in the last week of March as the signaling system of Lines 5 and 6 are to be connected with the existing four lines.

"A separate signaling room has been set up at Vidyavihar. All the six lines will be connected with it," a senior railway official said.

He added, "We are contemplating both mega and line by line blocks.

It will be decided in a meeting today. In this block, one track each of the up and down lines remains open to ensure that train traffic does not come to an abrupt halt as in the case of mega block," said the official.

In line-by-line block, there will be a delay of around 15 minutes, but in the mega block only 50 per cent of 735 daily services on the route will be operational.

AK Singh, PRO, CR, said, "There is signaling work to be done between Kurla and Thane for lines 5 and 6. However, most of the work has been completed on this route. We are trying not to affect our passengers."
