Passengers flying by British Airways (BA) on Monday received a rude shock when they could not find their luggage after landing in Mumbai. The flight from Heathrow landed at Terminal 2 at around 12.30 am, and passengers with connecting flights to other cities, who could not find their luggage, were left in the lurch.

Jyotindra Shah, a passengers who could not find three out of his four bags, was travelling from New York with his wife. He was travelling from JFK international airport and had a connecting flight from London’s Heathrow airport to Mumbai.
Jyotindra’s son Milind received an email half an hour prior to the landing of his father’s flight, informing him that three of his bags were not in the aircraft. However, no reason was mentioned in the email.

“The airline assured us that the bags would be delivered to us by noon, but we have not received them yet. Now they are saying they will send the bags in the next 24 hours,” said Milind who had gone to receive his parents at the airport.
“Around 40 to 50 passengers travelling in the flight were facing the same problem,” he added. Jyotindra said that many passengers had connecting flight to Goa and other cities, and were asked to board the aircraft without the bags. “My bags had valuables which we cannot afford to lose,” said the worried passenger.
The other side
The official spokesperson of British Airways said, “There was some issue with Heathrow Airport’s baggage IT systems since Saturday. The systems returned to normal on Monday morning and our flights are now operating as scheduled.
Our focus is to ensure that any delayed bags are reunited with customers as soon as possible. We apologise for any disruption to customers’ travel plans.”

On June 28, 2014, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan’s sarod had gone missing while he was returning to Delhi from London by a British Airways flight. He was reunited with his instrument on July 1.
