Forced on the back foot, The Cricket Club of India (CCI) has gone on a damage-control exercise, in which it is sending out circulars by post to its 5,000 plus member base. The unsigned one-page circular warns fellow members to watch out for detractors of the club.
Stating that these are meant to sway the opinion of the club members against them, the circular goes on to enumerate 10 recent achievements by the cricket club that includes refurbishing the health clubs, the re-done Wet Wicket Bar and a slew of events like the Sonu Niigaam night (the singer performed for the club's 75th anniversary) and a Swiss food festival.
It ends by telling members to keep disgruntled persons at bay, those who are trying to bring down the "great institution".
The club has been reacting to a flood of controversies beginning with the first fiery Open House where members shouting down the Committee, to the latest instance when circulars were being distributed outside the club's gates highlighting what it stated was: 'injustice and wrongdoings' of the club. That had blown up into a scandal with a First Information Report (FIR) being filed against the club at the Marine Drive Police station. In fact, the club has been in the centre of so much trouble off late that a website https://clubinfo.co.in/ has sprung with a dedicated CCI blog page where the elite club's news and views are posted.
