A day after being diagnosed with cancer, a 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at his residence on Wednesday morning. According to Dindoshi police, the deceased identified as Jalpeet Desai was a resident of Panchsheel building at Raheja Complex in Malad (East). He was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room.

The incident took place around 7.30 am when Jalpeet went to his room to have his medication. He then locked the door and allegedly went on to take his life. Jalpeet, who taught Maths at the nearby tuition classes, stayed with his parents and brother's family in Malad.

Cops and the deceased's relatives said that four days ago Jalpeet was admitted to Kokilaben hospital as he was diagnosed with tumours in his shoulder and chest. Jalpeet went through surgery where the tumour in his shoulder was removed.

Jalpeet was later discharged and was prescribed medication. In his statement to the police, Malabhai said that his son had been in depression since finding out that he was suffering from cancer.

Police officers investigating the case said that when Jalpeet didn't emerge from his room till 10 am, his father knocked on the door. After getting no response, the family finally broke into the room and found Jalpeet hanging from the ceiling fan. They then informed the Dindoshi police.

Police officers who reached the spot did not find any suicide note. Jalpeet's body was sent to Bhagwati hospital for post mortem.

Dindoshi police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the case. "We have recorded the statements of the deceased's relatives and are carrying on investigations," said Sub-Inspector Deepak Girne, from Dindoshi police station.
