An open plot admeasuring approximately around 10,000 sf ft at Pestom Sagar, Road No 6, opposite Anjana Co-operative Housing society was allegedly encroached by a shopowner trading in marble business, G R Gaokar, a resident told PTI.
The residents wrote several letters since for the last six months to the 'M' ward, BMC and also the Collectorate, but no action was being taken by these authorities, Gaokar said.
"Collectors land worth crores of rupees is been systematically grabbed by the encroacher with the BMC (M-West ward) and collector's official who are hand in glove," another resident who din't want to be identified alleged.
A similar encroachment was carried out by the same person in October 2008, however, BMC demolished the structure, due to the alertness by the local residents, Gaokar said.
"Earlier, in April last, we sought the status of the open plot under RTI from the collector's office, but the Collector's officer denied to part away with any information, Gaonkar alleged.
"We will continue to fight against such illegal activities," another resident said. In the meanwhile, the Assistant Municipal Commissioner, M-West ward and also the shopowner was not available for any comments.
