Congress leaders support Rahul, Sena says it was Anna's battle alone

Even after Parliament accepted Anna Hazare's three conditions, in principle, Congress leaders from the state backed young party leader Rahul Gandhi's suggestion to set up Lokpal on the lines of the election commission.

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Eknath Khadse said the BJP had already announced its decision to fully support the Jan Lokpal bill draft. "The fight against corruption should now be taken further by all parties through mutual understanding. The public sentiment expressed during the agitation should not be ignored. It's my appeal to Hazare to end his fast at the earliest," he said.

Reacting to the manic developments in Delhi through Saturday, Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh said it was a welcome step by the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, and the suggestion made by Rahul Gandhi should be the basis for the proposed bill.

Rajya Sabha member from the Shiv Sena, Sanjay Raut said it was Hazare's battle and no one except him should claim credit for it. Taking a dig at the activist's associates, Raut said individuals like Prashant Bhushan, Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi had made derogatory remarks about the Parliament, which is supreme. "But the agitation has turned into an awakening for the entire nation," he admitted.

NCP general secretary and spokesman Prakash Binsale said Parliament had honoured the sentiments of the people who supported Hazare, and that it was a winning situation for both, Team Anna and Parliament.

Spokesman for Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Sanjay Dutt, while thanking the Prime Minister, appealed to leaders to view Rahul Gandhi's suggestion constructively.
