The incident took place in the afternoon yesterday at Ghatkopar, after 58-year-old Sandhya Rameshchandra Seth withdrew Rs 50,000 from her bank and was on her way home.
Five persons, who were keeping a watch on her, approached her and snatched her bag near station road on LBS Marg. Her shrieks alerted two police constables -- Anil Sakpal and Anand Nagre -- in the vicinity, and on hearing the screams, they began following the accused.
After giving chase for a distance, they managed to apprehend three from the gang, while the other two managed to flee from the spot along with the bag.
The arrested trio have been identified as Amin Ahmed Mohd Shaikh (43), Mohd Shamim Mohd Sharif Shaikh (38) and Vijay Kumar Phoolchand Gupta (29) -- all residents of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi.
The police have been able to fish out information about the two absconding accused and have dispatched a team to trace and nab them from their residences.
Chain snatching foiled
