The Thane police yesterday arrested one of the corporators named in the suicide note of deceased Thane builder Suraj Parmar, after a search of his house revealed he had been storing 62 bottles of liquor.

The arrested MNS corporator, Sudhakar Chavan, was among the four named by Parmar, who had allegedly paid them off in the past. The other three are NCP corporators Najib Mulla, Hanumant Jagdale and Congress corporator Vikrant Chavan.

All four of them were granted interim relief by the Bombay High Court until December 2. However, the police was carrying out searches to gather evidence for the case when they stumbled upon the booze at Sudhakar’s Yeoor farmhouse.
“When we were carrying out house searches to gather evidence against the accused, we searched his farmhouse in Yeoor and found 62 bottles of foreign liquor that included Chivas Regal and Black Label,” said Gajanan Kadbule, spokesperson of Thane Police, adding that Sudhakar did not have a liquor permit.

ACP BR Gore, who is investigating the matter, had carried out the raid. Sudhakar was booked under Section 65(E) of the Bombay Prohibition Act and will be produced in court today.
