A jewellery theft worth Rs 1.44 crore that occurred at the domestic airport on December 22 has been solved with officials from the Crime Branch arresting two suspects on Monday, who are employees of a courier company.
The robbery occurred when the two accused, identified as Santosh Kadam and Ravi Satam, made away with the package containing the ornaments that had been sent from Hyderabad by Air India flight 527.u00a0 Police said the duo picked up the parcel from the general department at the airport, hid it in their baggage, fled the airport, and tried to sell the valuables in Sangli. When they were unable to sell in Sangli, they returned to the city and on Monday tried to sell the ornaments near Madhuban Hotel, Vile Parle. Acting on a tip-off, Senior Inspector Deepak Phatangre and Jyotsana Rasam arrested them.
