City police are on the hunt for unidentified thieves who were impudent enough to take on a senior city cop, breaking into his residence and stealing not only valuables, but also his weapon and passport.
Cops at the Amboli police station have registered a case of theft against unknown persons for allegedly breaking into the residence of ACP Nandkumar Mehetre, and decamping with booty worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

The thieves have allegedly also appropriated important documents and the commissioner's service revolver.u00a0
ACP Mehetre, who is posted with the traffic police department in Worli, discovered the theft on Thursday night, when he returned to his residence at Rajgraha building in Andheri (West).

The building had been redeveloped recently, and only a few of the original occupants had moved back in, as a result of which it was rather deserted on the night of the theft.
The accused allegedly broke into the flat, possibly in the afternoon, and fled with cash and valuables worth over Rs 1.5 lakh.

Mehetre's passport and service revolver, which had been kept in the cupboard, are also missing.
Cops are now questioning the watchmen of the building. Security personnel from neighbouring buildings are being interrogated as well. Statements of the neighbours have been recorded.
When contacted, ACP Mehetre refused to comment on the matter.
