The accused has been identified as Sayyed Abbas Tublani (47), a resident of Mumbra. The cops said the accused had been in touch with Dawood’s right-hand man Chhota Shakeel ever since Balakrishnan bought the property.

Police said Shakeel had also sent a message to Balakrishnan and threatened him. Balakrishnan had filed a complaint regarding this after which cops were investigating the matter.

The police gathered their sources and traced the international numbers of outgoing and incoming calls.

It was found that Chhota Shakeel had been in contact with Tublani, who had allegedly prepared to kill Balakrishnan on the orders of Shakeel, at a decided day and time.

A police officer said, “The accused has been arrested under Sections 506(2), 120(b), 465, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

We have recovered two mobile phones and SIM cards from him.” He has been remanded to police custody till January 7.

When contacted, Balakrishnan said, “All I want to say is, our prime minister has a great equation with Pakistan now and he should use it to extradite Chhota Shakeel to India. He is a fugitive sitting in another country and threatening law-abiding citizens like me. Every effort must be made to extradite him and make him face trial in India.”

On Tublani’s arrest, he said, “One person who planned to kill me has been arrested. I am not afraid of anyone. I won’t sit silent, they can continue with their attempts.”
