While the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has put up a giant hoarding outside MLA Ram Kadam's office propagating a fight against corruption, a close associate of the MLA is in the dock over alleged demanding a bribe.
MLA Ram Kadam
According to the police, Anil Mishra, a close associate of MLA Ram Kadam, had caught a tempo ferrying adulterated gutka worth Rs 9 lakh at Ghatkopar. Mishra, along with a constable S Devkar, then took the tempo to a secluded spot and demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the owners of the stock to not report the matter to the cops. While the negotiations were on, someone called the local police and a police team raided the spot.
Constable Devkar and Mishra fled the spot, but the police arrested 10 people from the spot and also confiscated the adulterated goods worth Rs 9 lakh.
"As the officials reached the spot Mishra and Devkar managed to escape, but the cops succeeded in arresting 10 people including the driver and cleaner of the tempo. Meanwhile, they are still searching for Babulal Jain, Suresh Jain and Dilip Kothari in relevance to the case," said an officer from Ghatkopar police station.
During investigation, the arrested men revealed that Mishra, who claimed to be a close associate of MLA Ram Kadam, along with constable Devkar, attached to DB Marg police station, had threatened the driver of the tempo and demanded the bribe.
"Mishra threatened the tempo driver Aashid Nishad and cleaner Ramayan, and took the tempo to a secluded place in Ghatkopar West," confirmed Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Quaiser Khalid.
Following the accusations made by the gutka owners, the cops registered another complaint of extortion and kidnapping against Devkar, Mishra and three of their associates.
"We have arrested Amjad Khan, Abdul Shaikh and Sandradh Patthak on charges of extortion and have launched a search for Mishra and Devkar," said the police officer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII), Sanjay Shintre said, "We are investigating the matter. They have been booked for kidnapping and extortion."
Poster claim
A board in front of MLA Ram Kadam's office states that no one should pay a bribe to any of his workers or assistant for getting any work done at his office. If someone demands money, the complainant can directly get in touch with Kadam, who will deal with the matter in MNS style.
